Summertime Hiking in the Dolomites - nature’s paradise

The Alpe di Siusi, distant from our farm 15 km, Europe’s largest alpine pasture, offers more than 300 km of hiking paths. There are various paths of superlative hiking area, from easy to walk woodland trails to demanding tours. All of these paths offer spectacular views of the surrounding Dolomite peaks, the green hills and alpine meadows with their sea of flowers. Walking along these pastures and alpine rivers where you may watch butterflies, marmots, or even roe deer and hares at dusk will be a highlight of your holidays. 

The hiking trails around the Alpe di Siusi boast incredible views far and wide over the Dolomite Mountains. With around 300 days of sun per year, hikers can head out from March to November and discover the myriad facets of the Dolomites in spring, summer and autumn. 450 kilometres of hiking trails offer variety to suit every taste: from easy mountain cabin tours on the Alpe di Susi, to the vibrancy and colours of spring and autumn walks at the foot of the Dolomites, right through to summit-tours on the Sciliar. Nordic walking - a new sport in the Alps

Fitness walkers have discovered a new passion: the sportive walking. This total body workout carries people into nature. You will be equipped with two very light walking clubs and sensible footwear; Nordic Walking began in Finland as a summer training exercise and fitness walkers in Europe adopted Nordic Walking immediately. Its popularity is growing because everybody can take part. It is serious training for the very sportive people and it is an efficient relief and light training for office workers and couch potatoes.

Cycling through the Dolomites

The Dolomites or the pales mountains as they are also called can be experienced in different ways. Several tours of various degrees of difficulty extend over the Sciliar area. In July there is a possibility to follow the Girod’Italia route. There is one bike tour that passess direct in front of our farm. Magnificent views over the Dolomites, the vastness of Europe’s largest high-mountain plateau, 300 days of sun: You can experience all of this on cycling tours around the Alpe di Siusi. The tour network of the cycling region of Gardena/Alpe di Siusi Gröden / Seiser Alm covers 1,000 kilometres of cycling routes at two different altitudes. 19 mountain bike tours offer variety to suit every taste: from technically demanding climbs and hair-raising descents through to easy rides of around 200-300 m. If you’re looking for a challenge in the Dolomites, you can embark on cycling tours of up to 2,500m. Short tours, day-long tours or tours of a few days guarantee variety – inclusive of the breathtaking views over the Dolomites with the Sciliar/Schlern, Sasso Lungo/Langkofel, and Sasso Piatto/Plattkofel. In summer, you will also find guided bike tours over Europe’s largest high-mountain plateau or at the foot of the Alpe di Siusi. And on a specialist cycling-technique training course, beginners and pros alike will learn numerous tips and tricks from an expert cyclist.

Swimming in the Alpe di Siusi holiday area

If you come to the Alpe di Siusi/Seiser Alm holiday area to swim, you will find idyllically situated lakes at the foot of the Sciliar and a swimming pool with a panoramic view:

The Laghetto di Fiè /Völser Weiher Lake is classed as one of the cleanest swimming lakes in Italy: In 2015, Legambiente, the largest environmental association in Italy, awarded Italy’s best ecosystems with a “Vela Blu”. Among the top 3 exemplary lakes we find the Laghetto di Fiè. Due to its intact ecosystem and outstanding water quality, the lake at the foot of the Sciliar is an extremely popular destination with swimmers. The Laghetto di Fiè is one of eight swimming lakes in the Dolomite region and is situated in the Sciliar-Catinaccio/Schlern-Rosengarten Nature Reserve at the foot of the emblem mountain of the Dolomites, the Sciliar. The Laghetto di Fiè is an artificial pond which was laid out in the middle ages by local aristocrats. It’s a popular resort where you can also swim in the evenings. From our farm you can reach the Fiè pond in only 15 walking minutes.

The Telfen swimming pool also guarantees breathtaking views over the Santner peak. Situated between Castelrotto and Sius it is the right place to completly relax and take some swimming rounds. On the hot summer days, the high altitude of the Telfen swimming pool and the Laghetto di Fiè provides an all-natural cooling system: They are both situated at around 1,000m above sea level.

Discover the Dolomites on a horse carriage ride

Take a horse and carriage ride over Europe’s largest high mountain plateau and enjoy the unique scenery of the Sciliar peak. The horse and carriage ride takes you over endless forrest, past the woods, the blossoming meadows and huts tempting you to drop in and partake of their hospitality. At our farm we take horse carriages with our blondies and the houseman personally at a modic charge.
Thanks to 300 days of sun, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the mountain backdrop of the Dolomites during your comfortable horse-drawn carriage ride.

The Haflinger, these good-natured Tyrolean horses with long flax blond manes make every rider’s heart beat faster. The riding horse stable Oberlanzin (Phone +39 339 8686868) at Castelrotto (4 km) or Alpe di Siusi (15 km) you can rent a horse and explore our Nature from a different kind of view. At our farm we take horse carriages with our blondies and the houseman personally at a modic charge.

Golfing in the Dolomites

An 18-holes golf course is at your front door. The new golf course of Siusi, distant only 3 km, is beautifully situated among mills, farms and ponds in the heart of the Dolomites. It is in perfect harmony with the landscape and the surrounding towns and farms. You may want to try this new sport during your holidays, well, that’s the place! From march to november opend daily.

The S. Vigilio Siusi/St. Vigil Seis golf course is set in the breathtaking landscape of the Dolomites in the Alps. The pleasantly fresh high-altitude climate, the unique natural surroundings and the view over the Sciliar make golfing on the 18-hole golf course an unusual experience indeed.

The S. Vigilio Siusi 69-par, 18-hole course is playable from March through to November and, at an altitude of 850m, boasts incredibly good climate conditions – and all just 21km from Bolzano/Bozen. At the S. Vigilio Siusi golf course, idyllically situated ponds, ravines, streams, fascinating waterfalls and long fairways alternate with easier holes. A sure favourite with all golfing fans will be the 15th hole, a par-3 with the biggest elevation change in Europe!

Unique running experience in the Dolomites in the Alps

Coming to the Dolomites to run? The Alpe di Siusi/Seiser Alm holiday area offers everything that makes a running heart race that bit faster: The Alpe di Siusi Running Park awaits your visit with 180km of running routes of a variety of difficulties. Eight of the 20 excellently signposted routes are on the highest mountain plateau in Europe, the Alpe di Siusi, and 12 routes in the villages at the foot of the Sciliar/Schlern. Whether you opt for the 18.4km long Paul Tergat running trail or the easy beginners’ route, the Running Park offers the ideal route for every runner.

The high altitudes of the running trails, between 900 and 2,300 m, make the Alpe di Siusi holiday area the ideal destination for running in the Dolomites from April right through to November. Given the level terrain and the low-oxygen air of the high altitudes, the Alpe di Siusi running trails ranging from 1,800 to 2,300 m are particularly good for professional endurance training. And on a run round the Alpe di Siusi, breathtaking views over the Dolomite Mountains are in no short supply.

One definite must for all runners is the Alpe di Siusi Half Marathon, a unique race through the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites. With a total length of 21km and 601m of elevation difference, the race combines a sporting challenge with the beauty of the Dolomite landscape.

Paragliding and tandem flights in the Dolomites

Glide through the air with a paraglider and experience the unique mountain landscape of the Dolomites, UNESCO World Heritage Site, from above. 300 days of sun per year promise amazing views of the Sciliar/Schlern, the emblem of South Tyrol. The launch area for paragliding tandem flights is the Spitzbühl, much loved by paragliders from far and wide due to its optimal thermal currents. There are very few places you can feel as close to the Sciliar as you can from above, on a paragliding flight. 

When paragliding in the Dolomites, the dream of flying can come true even for those unfamiliar with the sport: Experience the Alpe di Siusi from a bird’s eye point of view together with an experienced paragliding pilot. Your tandem pilot will let you know when the weather is right for your flight over the Dolomites and will provide all the necessary equipment, from helmet to flight suit. 

Paragliding – flight route: Launching off from the Spitzbühl, passengers and pilots rise up after just a few steps of running and glide down to S. Valentino/St. Valentin in the valley. The flight team will organise mountain transport from Castelrotto/Kastelruth to the Alpe di Siusi. 

Climbing in unspoilt nature in the Alps

Daring climbs lead up to breathtaking heights and the view is simply beautiful. The Dolomites are a challenge to every serious climber, and nowhere will you have such a spectacular panorama as in the legendary Dolomites where the film director Luis Trenker shot his films.

The Dolomites in the Alps are a unique climbing retreat. The legendary Catinaccio/Rosengarten and Sciliar/Schlern massifs with their jagged peaks, surreal rocky needles and steep gullies make climbing a memorable experience indeed. Climbing fans will find a true challenge, a special experience of nature and pure climbing enjoyment at its best in the Dolomites. And all accompanied by the spectacular scenery of the Dolomites. Alongside the climbing routes, you will also find Via Ferrata fixed-rope routes to get up to the dizzying heights of the Dolomites in the Alps.
